Empowering Yak Herders, Preserving Nepal's Identity

YCAN

Yak and Chauri Association of Nepal (YCAN) is an umbrella organization of Yak and Chauri herders of Solukhumbu district. This is a non-profit social organization officially registered under the Organization Registration Act 2034 in the year 2020 at the District Administration Office Solukhumbu. YCAN is dedicated to protecting the endangered Yak, which serves as a symbol of the identity of Nepal itself.

Mission

YCAN is committed to the preservation and empowerment of Yak herders in the Solukhumbu district. Our mission is to provide assistance, advocacy, and infrastructure support to these unsung heroes of the mountains, who play a vital role in preserving Nepal's identity and the delicate balance of the Himalayan ecosystem.

Objectives:

1. Empowerment of Yak Herders:

YCAN aims to empower Yak herders by providing them with the necessary resources, training, and support to enhance their livelihoods and preserve their cultural heritage. We seek to improve access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for Yak herding communities.

2. Advocacy and Awareness:

YCAN advocates for the recognition and support of Yak herders as guardians of the Himalayas and stewards of Nepal's cultural identity. We raise awareness about the importance of Yak conservation, sustainable grazing practices, and the role of Yak herders in maintaining ecosystem balance.

3. Infrastructure Support:

YCAN works to improve infrastructure of Yak herders’ family, including access to clean water, Goth, healthcare facilities, and Toilets, Yak tails. We believe that investing in infrastructure is essential for the wellbeing and development of mountain communities.

5. Research and Marketing:

Ycan will conduct research on dairy products produced by eating herbs found in high mountain areas of the world and systematically market the production of yak chauri.

4. Fundraising for Conservation:

YCAN fundraises to support conservation efforts aimed at protecting Yak populations and their habitats. We collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and international organizations to fund projects that promote Yak conservation and sustainable development in the Himalayan region.

Activities:

• Organizing training workshops on sustainable Yak herding practices, animal welfare, and pasture management.

• Conducting advocacy campaigns to raise awareness about the importance of Yak conservation and the challenges faced by Yak herders.

• Implementing infrastructure projects to improve living conditions and access to essential services in Yak herding communities.

• Collaborating with eco-tourism initiatives to promote responsible tourism and generate income for Yak herders.

• Facilitating partnerships and fundraising efforts to support Yak conservation and Himalayan ecosystem preservation projects.

Get Involved:

YCAN invites individuals, organizations, and institutions to join us in our mission to protect the Yak, preserve Nepal's identity, and save the Himalayas.
